UK Short Term Study Visa Application from India

Introduction to Short Term Study Visa

If you are planning to pursue an English language course in the United Kingdom for more than 6 months but not exceeding 11 months, you may apply for a UK Short-term Study Visa. This visa is suitable for students intending to take up only English language training in the UK.

For Courses of Different Durations

If your English course is up to 6 months, you should apply for a Standard Visitor Visa. In case the duration is beyond 11 months, you will need to apply under the regular Student Visa category.

Duration of Stay

You are permitted to stay in the UK for the length of your English course plus an additional 30 days, provided the total stay does not go beyond 11 months.

Visa Charges

The current application fee for a Short-term Study Visa is £214. Additionally, applicants are required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, which is approximately £776. This allows you to access NHS healthcare services while in the UK.

Recognised Institutions

UK course providers must either:

  • Hold a valid student sponsor licence
  • Be accredited by approved bodies such as the British Accreditation Council, Ofsted, Estyn, Education Scotland, or the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

  • Information about your sponsor (if someone else is funding you)

Applicants Under 18

If you’re under 18 and travelling:

Alone

You must have written approval from both parents (or a sole guardian) allowing you to:

  • Apply for the visa
  • Travel and stay in the UK
  • Be taken care of during your stay
The person responsible for you in the UK must provide their full details and written confirmation of your accommodation and care. If your stay involves private foster care or if you have a disability, the local authority should be informed, and a response from them must be submitted if available.

With an Adult

If travelling with someone over 18, you must name that person in your visa application. Their name will be printed on your visa, and you will not be allowed entry unless accompanied by them. You may list up to two adults, and your visa will be valid only when one of them is present with you at arrival.

Application Process

Applications must be made online before entering the UK. You can apply up to 3 months before your planned travel. You will be required to schedule an appointment at the visa application centre to submit your documents and provide biometrics.
